PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A Providence man was sentenced to two years in prison for trafficking two young teenagers for sex.

A U.S. District Court judge ordered Cristian Garcia to serve 5 years supervised release once his prison term is up.

Garcia, 21, pleaded guilty back in May to one count of sex trafficking children and one count of conspiracy.

Mackenzy Scott, 20, of Providence, also pleaded guilty last month to conspiracy to sex trafficking children. Scott will be sentenced in December.

According to court records, Garcia and Scott began conspiring back in December of 2014. The two took photographs of a 14-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl and posted the photographs in advertisements on Backpage.com.

The ads offered the young teenagers for sex and multiple people responded.

Garcia and Scott allegedly drove or arranged for the teenagers to be driven to various locations in Rhode Island and Massachusetts to engage in sex acts in exchange for cash.

The case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations along with the Warwick and Seekonk Police Departments.

Scott was arrested in April of 2015 and Garcia was taken into custody March of the following year. Both men have been detained since their arrests.
