WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) – Rhode Island celebrities laced up their dancing shoes for a good cause Sunday night at Warwick’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.

The ballroom dancing event is sponsored by and helping to raise awareness and funds for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD).

Eyewitness News Chief Meteorologist Tony Petrarca was one of Sunday’s “Dancing with the Rhode Island Stars” judges.

The participants, all local celebrities, were paired with professional dancers from the Arthur Murray Dance Studios, who also sponsor the event.

In a release about the event, MADD Rhode Island Executive Director Eric Creamer says, “this is a unique and fun event but also will be a way to show the dangers of drinking and driving through this very special evening. All of the individuals dancing have worked very hard to prepare and to support the message and mission of MADD.”

MADD’s Rhode Island chapter has been working to save lives from drunk driving since 1983.
