Police ID Pawtucket murder victim; say shooting ‘isolated’

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Pawtucket police late Wednesday afternoon officially identified the man who was fatally shot on Halloween.

Confirming what friends already told Eyewitness News, police said Matthew Reverdes was the victim who was shot on Harrison Avenue Monday.

While the investigation is ongoing, police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and not related to the surrounding neighborhood. However, the department will be deploying extra patrols in the immediate area to “ensure the safety of the neighborhood.”

Friend Rakim Sanders described Reverdes as a family man who leaves behind a daughter.Pawtucket Halloween shooting

Police have not revealed what may have led up to the shooting. As of Wednesday afternoon, they had not made any arrests in connection with the crime.

The city of Pawtucket has seen a number of shootings with multiple injuries in the last five months.

Three people were struck by gunfire in the area of West and Jefferson Avenues on June 28. In the same location just days earlier, a 23-year-old was shot.

On September 26, police found a man shot in the head in a car that was crashed on Underwood Street.

Later that same week, two people were injured after a shooting on West Avenue and Sterry Street in what appeared to a drive-by shooting.

No arrests have been made in any of those cases.
