PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – Congressman David Cicilline has been re-elected to a fourth term in the U.S. House of Representatives, Eyewitness News projects.
Cicilline, a Democrat who has represented the 1st Congressional District since 2011, defeated Republican H. Russell Taub.
Cicilline, a former state representative and mayor of Providence, was a heavy favorite over Taub, a little-known newcomer who faced a significant fundraising disadvantage. Cicilline also swept to victory in the Democratic primary earlier this year.
All four members of Rhode Island’s congressional delegation are Democrats. Congressman James Langevin was also re-elected Tuesday. U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse were not on the ballot.
