Taunton man critically injured after being hit by vehicle

TAUNTON, Mass. (WPRI) – Taunton police are investigating after a bicyclist was hit by a car late Thursday night.

The victim, a 36 year-old Taunton man, was crossing Washington Street at Broadway on his bicycle at about 11:30 p.m. when he was hit by a vehicle. He was in a crosswalk at the time, police said.

Police officers found the victim in the road with what they described as “critical head trauma” and he was ultimately airlifted to Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he is in “extremely critical” condition Friday afternoon.

Investigators only found one of the bicycle tires at the scene but determined that the striking vehicle had dragged the rest of the bicycle down Washington Street. Police found that vehicle, a 2010 Toyota Venza registered to a Bridgewater resident, unattended on nearby Park Street, and the bicycle in some woods there.

No arrests have yet been made.
