PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A protest against President-elect Donald Trump is underway at the Rhode Island State House.

At least 100 people gathered at the State House steps, organized by the group Socialist Alternative RI.

The protest was promoted on Facebook and asked potential attendees to “demonstrate our disapproval of his agenda.”

Similar protests were being held Saturday; some 2,000 people marched along Fifth Avenue in New York City and hundreds marched in Chicago. Closer to home, a peaceful protest was planned in Worcester.

Not all the protests have been peaceful – one person was shot in Portland, Oregon during a protest and according to the Los Angeles Times, about 200 were arrested during a Saturday morning rally in Lost Angeles.

The protest in Providence was expected to run until 4 p.m.
