PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – Police in Pawtucket are investigating following a deadly shooting on Saturday afternoon.

Pawtucket Fire Department Battalion Chief William Conroy tells Eyewitness News a 21-year-old man was shot in the chest at 198 Sisson Street around 3 p.m. Saturday. Conroy says that man later died at the hospital.

Pawtucket Police were tight-lipped about the crime on Saturday evening, but investigators were seen scouring Sisson Street and the home where the shooting took place. The major crime unit and crime scene investigators were also on scene.

Three men were taken away in police cruisers, but it is unclear what connection, if any, they may have to the crime.

Sunday morning, Major Tina Goncalves said that the shooting appears to have been targeted. Detectives are following several leads and additional patrol officers will be assigned to the area “to ensure the safety of the citizens.”
