WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Two-way traffic will flow on Post Road in the Apponaug section of Warwick starting Wednesday.
RIDOT Director Peter Alviti stated that “for many years, heading north, that’s been a one-way. That will become two ways.”
The entire area has been under construction for two years as the DOT builds five roundabouts to reduce commuter congestion.
Residents said Tuesday they have not seen much of an improvement, but hope to by the time that the project is complete next fall.
Some suggested more education on how to drive through a roundabout or more police enforcement.
The DOT stated that, statistically, roundabouts are safer than traditional intersections.
As of October, the project, priced at $71 million, was on budget and about one month ahead of schedule, according to the DOT’s Charles St. Martin.
