PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man is arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop in Providence and police later find the suspect to be in possession of child pornography.
On October 23, police spotted a car idling in a no parking zone on the corner of Knight Street and Broadway.
When they approached the car, they noticed the driver later identified as Jonathan Delleselva of East Mendon, Massachusetts, smoking what appeared to be marijuana.
When police ordered Delleselva out of the vehicle, they noticed a bag of suspected marijuana on the passenger seat.
Delleselva was placed in the back of the cruiser while his car was searched.
Inside a backpack, police found several bags of marijuana and many other items of drug paraphernalia. He was also in possession of more than $2,300.
Delleselva was then arrested and taken to the Providence Police station.
After a court order was executed, investigators were then able to seize his cell phone, thinking Delleselva was dealing marijuana.
As detectives were searching the phone, they discovered multiple images of suspected child pornography.
Delleselva was additionally charged with Possession of Child Pornography. He was already serving a 30 day sentence for the drug charges.
