Pawtucket homicide victim identified

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Police have confirmed the identity of the victim of a fatal shooting in Pawtucket over the weekend.

According to a statement, the victim was 21-year-old Robert Baptista.

Over the weekend, Baptista was shot in the chest inside a home on Sisson Street, officials said.

“There has to be some type of vendetta or something like that,” the victim’s uncle and godfather, Jay Baptista said. “I have no idea where it could have come from. He’s not a bad kid, and it’s really sad.”

He also said his nephew had recently been released from prison, and was trying to change his ways.

Back in July, Baptista, along with two others, was arrested in connection with a domestic assault incident that involved a police standoff with both Pawtucket and Central Falls police.

He had been charged with felony assault and firing in a compact area, according to police.
