WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Veterans Memorial Drive and its extension will now become two-way as part of the renovations to the Apponaug Circulator, the Rhode Island Department of Transportation said Monday.
The change will take effect about midday on Tuesday. A stretch of Centerville Road will now be used only by local traffic west of Greenwich Avenue and Post Road.
Up to now, the segments of Veterans Memorial Drive have only carried westbound traffic between the Post Road Extension and Toll Gate Road/Centerville Road/Gilbane Street roundabout intersection.
Back on November 16, a segment of Post Road between a new “teardrop” roundabout and the Post Road Extension/Veterans Memorial Drive intersection became two-way — though it opened after a delay because of drenching rains.
The entire project is expected to be completed next fall.
