(WPRI) — Patriots defensive tackle Alan Branch has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s drug policy, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Schefter Tweeted the details Monday afternoon.

He said sources reported Branch tested positive for marijuana.

According to Schefter, Branch is appealing the decision.

ESPN is reporting that the suspension won’t start until after the appeal is heard, so Branch is expected to play against the New York Jets this Sunday.

According to the Patriots website, Branch has 33 tackles this season and one sack. He was signed as a free agent by New England in 2014 after he was released by Buffalo.
