FALL RIVER, Mass. (WPRI) — Police are investigating a violent incident that occurred on Fifth Street in Fall River Tuesday afternoon.

Police have still not confirmed any details with Eyewitness News, but a neighbor said he heard emergency workers transported two people to the hospital.

Another neighbor said he was home at the time of the incident and watched it unfold.

“I heard some gunshots, and then I saw two guys running down the street. I didn’t know what was going on,” said Richard Atkinson, who lives on Fifth Street.

Atkinson said he looked out the door just after 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and saw one man, who appeared to have been shot, laying on the street. He then noticed another man, who looked to have been stabbed, sitting on the porch of 123 Fifth Street with blood on his face.

Atkinson said police responded to the scene in minutes, as did community members.

“Everybody was standing around trying to figure out what the heck was going on,” the neighbor said.

Fall River Police remained on scene into the evening hours. By 7 p.m., most emergency crews had left.

Atkinson has lived on that street for 28 years and said he’s never seen anything like this happen. Despite the situation, he said he isn’t scared.

“I feel safe. It’s a quiet neighborhood. It’s very quiet,” he said. “All these people here are quiet.”
