NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A 48-year-old New Bedford woman is in critical condition after being seriously injured in a fire.
The fire happened at 1050 Pleasant Street just before 8:30 p.m. Monday, according to city fire officials.
Residents who evacuated the building told police that the woman was still inside her apartment.
Firefighters broke down her door to get inside. After locating her, crews carried her downstairs, where medics began working on her.
The woman was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital and was then transferred to Brigham and Women’s Hospital by medical helicopter.
All of the other residents were able to make it out of the building safely.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
