PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A family that lived in one half of a duplex is now displaced after their home caught fire.

Just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, the Providence Fire Department was called to a house at the corner of Samoset and Chalkstone Avenues for a fire.

According to the battalion chief, it took firefighters about 15 minutes to put the flames out.

People were inside at the time and were able to make it out safely.

The right side of the duplex is heavily damaged. It’s unclear how much damage there is to the left side.

The fire marshal was called to the scene to try and determine the cause, but officials say that people were home at the time, so it’s likely accidental.

The Red Cross said Wednesday it’s assisting four adults and two children with basic needs.
