PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A Providence bar is ordered to close for 48 hours after a stabbing there Friday night.
Providence Police Major David Lapatin confirms Tropicana Bar, located at 1040 Chalkstone Avenue in the capitol city, will remain closed through the weekend pending a Board of Licenses hearing on Monday.
Police responded to the Valley neighborhood bar just before 11:30 p.m. for a report of a stabbing.
An altercation inside the bar ended outside after the suspect was pepper sprayed in the face, and the bar’s bouncer was stabbed in the abdomen.
The 44-year-old victim left the scene, and went to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated for two stab wounds to the abdomen. The victim is in stable condition Saturday after undergoing surgery.
While police were on scene at Tropicana, they were dispatched to Regent Avenue for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.
The male pedestrian was identified by the victim as the stabbing suspect, 34-year-old Eliu Figueroa.
Figueroa had minors injuries to his face as a result of the pepper spray, and was taken by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital to be treated. He was later taken into police custody.
