PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man who was killed in Providence before his body was disposed of in Lincoln has been identified.
The body of Dakota Gosselin was found last week in a vacant lot on Lincoln Meadows Drive, confirmed Joseph Wendelken, a spokesperson for the Rhode Island Department of Health.
Wendelken said the cause of Gosselin’s death was a gunshot wound to the head.
Firefighters discovered Gosselin’s body after responding to what was initially thought to be a brush fire in the vacant lot.
David DeLeon, 19, is charged in the murder. Providence Police believe he shot Gosselin on Nov. 20, then took his body to Lincoln and set it on fire.
Central Falls Police said they received information on Sunday that DeLeon was hiding out at a third-floor apartment on Hedley Avenue.
Investigators responded to the apartment and found DeLeon hiding inside a secret compartment within the bathroom wall, according to police. He was taken into custody and turned over to Providence Police.
The renter of the apartment, 39-year-old Erika Gonzalez, was arrested on a charge of harboring a criminal. She was arraigned Monday and held as a Superior Court violator.
DeLeon was arraigned also Monday and ordered held without bail.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for Gosselin’s family.
