Crews respond to double decker fire in EP home

East Providence crews respond to a house fire at 100 Merrill Street on Friday evening

EAST PROVIDENCE RI, (WPRI) – The fire department was called in for a fire in a two family home Friday evening.

A call came in to the department around 5:45 p.m. for a fire at 100 Merrill Street.

When they arrived, they found flames coming from the first floor window, the flames then spread to the second floor.

They were able to knock down the flames and were able to safely rescue two dogs and three cats from inside.

There was no one else home at the time of the fire and no fire fighters were injured.

Crews were on scene for less than two hours.

Right now, the State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating a cause and residents are not allowed back in at this time.
