COVENTRY, R.I. (WPRI) – A Coventry home is a total loss after an early-morning fire.

Coventry police said the fire started at about 2:30 Sunday morning at 2172 Plainfield Pike.

Fire officials told Eyewitness News that one person was home at the time, and was woken by smoke alarms going off. The resident got several pets out of the home and called 911.

Several firefighters slipped and fell in icy conditions while fighting the fire, but otherwise there were no injuries reported.

Late Sunday morning, investigators were still on the scene and Plainfield Pike near the Connecticut state line was still restricted to just one lane.

The cause of the fire hasn’t yet been determined, investigators said.
