Fire prompts evacuation at New Bedford apartment complex

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — An apartment complex in New Bedford was evacuated after a fire broke out Wednesday afternoon.

The fire started at about 3 p.m. at the Car Barn Apartments on Purchase Street.

Residents on scene said everyone was evacuated as a result. No injuries have been reported.

Crews had the fire under control by 3:50 p.m.

It was the second fire in the city on Wednesday after firefighters battled flames at a home on South Street just after noon.
