PROVIDENCE, RI (WPRI) – Students and teachers rallied at the Rhode Island Statehouse in Providence Thursday as part of National School Choice Week.
Organizers said the goal of the rally was to bring awareness to and expand school choice in Rhode Island.
“If you have to go to a school that’s underachieving, you are going to get a poor education. But, if your parents can send you to a better school, then that’s what we want to do,” said teacher James McBride.
School Choice Week is a nationwide movement that urges lawmakers to allow parents to make the best choice for their child’s education, by giving students in public schools the option to attend a school that is outside the district he or she lives in.
