Man stabbed in East Greenwich; police investigating

EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WPRI) — East Greenwich police are investigating after a man was stabbed during a fight early Friday morning.

The incident took place around 1 a.m. on the sidewalk outside 249 Main St. Police said they arrived on scene to find a 28-year-old man with a puncture wound to his lower back.

They did not say why people were gathered there or how many people were involved.

Responding officers administered first aid to the victim before he was transported to Rhode Island Hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.

Police on scene said the front window of a business was shattered during the altercation. By Friday afternoon, the window had been replaced.

The stabbing remains under investigation. Police said they have a possible suspect, but that person’s identity has not been released.
