PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The residents of a multi-family home in Providence were able to escape a fire early Wednesday morning thanks to the efforts of a pair of city police officers.
According to police officials, the two patrol officers were alerted to the fire on Florence Street at about 2:30 a.m. by a person on the street. Officers Kristen Barth-Cafaro and Matthew Fadale then forced their way into the triple-decker to warn the everyone inside and contacted the fire department.
Fire crews responded and were able to make quick work of the fire.
No injuries were reported, according to police, but there was extensive damage to the exterior of the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
