Why Joe Trillo chose to leave GOP for gubernatorial run

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Longtime Republican Joe Trillo stunned Rhode Island’s political class in December when he announced he’d be leaving the GOP to run for governor as an independent.

Despite calls from his former Republican colleagues to drop out of the race, Trillo said he’s in it until the end during a taping of WPRI 12’s Newsmakers on Friday.

In the above video, host Tim White has more on Trillo’s decision, and you can watch the full episode of Newsmakers here.
