Rare Blue Moon Tonight

After showers and isolated thunderstorms move through this evening, you’ll want to take note of tonight’s full moon.  It’s a rare “Blue Moon”. A “blue Moon”–while not likely to actually appear blue– is a second full moon in a month.  This only occurs once every 2-3 years.  The last time we had one was in August of 2012.  Why is it called a blue moon?  Back in 1883, the Indonesian volcano Krakatoa erupted, sending so much ash into the atmosphere the the moon took on a bluish hue for years.
