When Kindle first came out, I thought it was a cool little gadget. I love to read and I blast through a lot of books. After sitting in front of a computer for 9 plus hours a day, my eyes are tired and reading is sometimes difficult in the evening. Yea, I am getting old.
I tried audio books, but it’s just not the same. So, I am thinking maybe this new Kindle is the way to go.
It’s called the Kindle DX. It’s 9.7 inches- versus 6 inches for the original Kindle. It has the e-ink screen that reads like real paper; boasts 16 shades of gray for clear text and sharp images. You can adjust the size of the text- which would be great, and when my eyes are really tired, I could use the “Read To Me” feature: With the text-to-speech feature, Kindle DX can read newspapers, magazines, blogs, and books out loud to you.
Currently there are over 300,000 books available, and you can download them in under 60 seconds using 3G or WIFI. New releases are $9.99. The device holds up to 3,500 books and it is as thin as a magazine!
So…now I go to B&N or Borders and spend around $20 on a new release. I read it, and throw it on a shelf (actually they usually end up under my bed- not to be seen for a LONG time).
Kindle is looking more and more like what I need. I am in love with it (technologically speaking) actually.
I do have some reservations, however. First, it costs $500 for the new one. I would not want to pay this kind of money and have the Kindle not catch on, and books become unavailable! I would also be VERY nerveous that I would drop it, get it wet, dirty, etc.
I don’t know…does anyone own one- or know someone who uses it?
