U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse’s national profile continues to rise.
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee will hold a national conference call on Tuesday at noon for its members and the press where Whitehouse will discuss efforts to overturn the Citizens United ruling and his Disclose Act, WPRI.com has learned.
The committee describes Whitehouse as “a rising progressive star” and says its strategy was to force Republicans to vote on the campaign finance bill even though it was unlikely to pass. “As a result, supposedly ‘moderate’ Republican senators like Scott Brown, Olympia Snowe, and Susan Collins were exposed in local headlines,” the group says.
The Progressive Change Campaign Committee is a national political action committee that works to elect liberal Democrats. In 2010, the group provided crucial support for David Segal in his failed bid for the 1st Congressional District nomination, which was won by David Cicilline.
The committee says it has more than 3,700 members in Rhode Island.
