Lorne Adrain drops out of Providence mayor’s race

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – The race for Providence mayor is shrinking.

Lorne Adrain, who considered running for the city’s top job as a Democrat before making a last-minute decision to run as an independent, said Monday he is pulling out of race, the clearest sign yet that liberal-minded Providence residents could attempt to rally behind one candidate in the race against former Mayor Vincent A. “Buddy” Cianci Jr.

    Would not surprise me if some offer was made to drop out. Maybe a lucrative job in the wings.

    i bet there was tons of pressure on him to drop out. and i would not be surprised if he winds up with a job from somebody after all this is over if cianci loses.

    i guess the most votes would go to smiley? i think he is the darling of the most vocal east siders… but don’t be so sure – many on the east side are tired of paying $10-15,000 per year in house and car taxes ( for average homes and old cars) and nobody will make the city grow like buddy.

    If the city grew under buddy it was because he was kicking the can down the road.
