Perseid meteor shower peaking right now
The Perseid meteor shower is peaking right now. Unfortunately we have some clouds and fog in the forecast during the early morning hours. Here is the cloud forecast at 4AM Sunday:
There could be some breaks in the clouds at times, but it’s not a sure bet that you will see anything.
Fog may linger into early Sunday morning, so keep that in mind if you have plans to head to the beach before 9AM Sunday morning. In addition, if you have morning Sunday plans it will still be a little muggy, especially early in the morning. So that early morning walk or run may be a little sticky.
Here are the dew points around 8AM, notice that the numbers are in the upper 60s to around 70 which still feels fairly humid:
We will be on the back side of a cold front by noon (it’s really more of a cool front), so notice how for Providence and other inland spots, dew points will drop into the low 60s, that feels much better! However, notice how the south coast still has dew points in the mid 60s to around 70….that’s still kind of muggy. It might be a good time to take a dip in the water, just be mindful of the moderate rip current risk for Sunday.
By 3PM, the less humid air should make to most of the coast where dew points in the low to mid 60s should be the general rule. That’s still noticeable, but better than 70s!
Even though the humidity will be dropping, it will still be a fairly warm day with highs in the mid 80s inland….upper 70s to low 80s at the coast.
Tropical Depression Eight in the Atlantic could soon become Tropical Storm Gert. Fortunately, the track is expected to stay well to our east.
Have a good Sunday! -Pete Mangione
