Good Evening from chief meteorologist Tony Petrarca @tony_tpetrarca
Last nights impressive rain and wind storm is located over southeast Canada. Gusty winds on the back side of it will diminish this evening and overnight, but not nearly as strong as last night. High wind warnings and advisories have expired.
Here is a look at some of the wind gusts last night with some locations over hurricane force. Leading the way was Mashpee Massachusetts with an extreme gust to 93 mph!
Most locations had gusts between 60-70 mph causing widespread power outages and tree damage.
Along with the winds, soaking rains last night with almost 5 inches in some locations. A flood warning remains in effect for the Wood River in Hope Valley RI, however the flooding on that river is expected to be minor.
How does last nights storm compare to other significant power outages? Well it ranks right up there with Super Storm Sandy and the Macro-burst event from August 4th 2015 when a line of severe damaging thunderstorms swept thru early in the morning.
